Practical Information
The 2026 GLCC will be held in the Maison du Savoir at Campus Belval of the University of Luxembourg, located at 2 avenue de l'Université, L-4365 Esch-sur-Alzette. Luxembourg is well-connected by road, train, and flights to neighboring countries.
Within the whole of Luxembourg, all public transportation is free! Check the official Mobilitéit website for up-to-date bus/train timetables and itineraries and how to best access the venue.
Important: We do not have arrangements with any company to manage the conference, whether in organization, transportation, accommodation, or logistics. Any e-mail asking or offering to help you with booking accommodation or transportation arrangements is not from us. The only official conference e-mail address is glcc2026[at]lcsoftmatter[dot]com.
Getting to Belval
Flights
The closest airport is Luxembourg Findel Airport, located about 30 minutes by tram east of the Luxembourg city center and about one hour from Belval. Direct flights are offered from Findel to many European hub airports (Paris Charles de Gaulle, Amsterdam Schiphol, Frankfurt/Main, München, Vienna, London, Manchester, Dublin, Warsaw Chopin, Istanbul…). Additional low-cost options are available through the Brussels South Charleroi Airport and from Brussels National Airport in Zaventem, both of which have a direct shuttle bus connection to Luxembourg, as well as from Frankfurt-Hahn Airport.
From Luxembourg airport, the tram (line T1) take you to the central railway station (Gare Centrale) within 35–45 minutes; from the central railway station, frequent trains (4 times per hour during the week) go from Luxembourg central station to the Belval-Université train station. Allow ~30-40 minutes to get between Luxembourg central station and Belval-Université by train.
Taxis are available from Luxembourg Findel Airport; you can pre-book though WebTaxi or book through Uber. Expect to pay €100–€150 for a taxi from the airport to Belval, depending on the time of day.
Trains
From France SNCF offers direct connections by TGV from Paris Gare de l'Est (~2h15), Strasbourg (~1h45), Lyon Part Dieu (~5h30), and Marseille St. Charles (~8h). The Gare de Lorraine TGV in Louvigny is connected to Luxembourg Central Station via a frequent shuttle bus, offering further options for travel. Note: It may be more convenient to take a TGV to Metz-Ville or Thionville, then a local TER to Bettembourg, and finally a local train from Bettembourg (direction Esch–Rodange or Esch–Pétange) directly to Belval-Université.
From Belgium Direct train connections to Luxembourg Central Station are available from Brussels South/Bruxelles-Midi (~2h30–3h00) via Namur and Arlon and from Liège-Guillemins (~2h45).
From Germany An hourly RE train runs from Koblenz Hauptbahnhof to Luxembourg (~2h30), and a frequent shuttle bus connects Saarbrücken Hauptbahnhof with Luxembourg (~1h15). Occasional direct connections are available from Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof via Koblenz to Luxembourg (~4h30).
From the Netherlands You can either travel via Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof, with occasional direct connections from Düsseldorf to Luxembourg or a connection in Koblenz; to Brussels North or South station with the Intercity Direct or Eurostar service, with further onwards connections in Brussels; or via Liège-Guillemins.
From the United Kingdom The Eurostar from London St. Pancras will go directly to Brussels South (1h50), with onward connections from SNCB from Brussels South to Luxembourg; it may also be faster to go via Paris-Gare du Nord (2h15), then take the TGV from Gare de l'Est.
From Luxembourg Central Station, frequent buses and trains will take you to Belval-Université.
Accommodation
While attendees are responsible for their own accommodation, we have agreements and arrangements with several nearby accommodation options for various budgets. To facilitate travel to and from the venue, we recommend staying in Esch-sur-Alzette (~5 min away by train) or in Belval itself: travel between Luxembourg City and Belval, especially during peak/rush hours, can be challenging.
Visa Information
If you are coming to Luxembourg from outside the Schengen Area and if you are not an EU, EEA, or Swiss citizen, depending on your nationality, you may need to apply for a visitor visa at the Luxembourgish or Belgian embassy responsible for your country of residence. Upon completion of the registration procedure and payment of the required fees, we will provide, on request, a letter to confirm your conference attendance (and presentation) to help you apply for a visa and/or to facilitate your entry to the Schengen Area, but it is your responsibility to ensure you have the correct documentation to be able to attend the conference. We are unable to prepare letters of invitation on behalf of conference attendees.
Want to Stay Longer?
Despite its small size, Luxembourg has a lot to offer! If you have extra time to spend, the Luxembourg National Tourist Office as well as the Luxembourg City tourism office both offer information about plenty of good reasons to extend your visit to the world's only Grand Duchy.
